Note [T]he BNE collection does not possess a Valladolid 1526 CELESTINA. Nicolas Tierry has in fact 17 (10+7) entries and I have gone through them them all and though the small identifying taco at the bottom of the so-called Russian copy is in, as Charles reports, the Tierry 1538 printing of a non-CELESTINA work, the other 16 books printed by Tierry do not have any tacos like the three of the Title Page we all have seen. Most all of Tierry's works are didactic and religious in nature except for the Relox de Principes of Guevara and some chivalresque works, which contain none of the three tacos of interest.

I did look at all of the Celestinas in the BNE prior to 1541 and, indeed, very similar tacos appear only in the TOLEDO 1538 (Juan de Ayala) printing. All three tacos appear in 1538: when they appear, the taco on the left one is CALISTO with one exception: it is PLEBERIO in Act XVI. The center taco is always identified as MELIBEA and the taco on the right is consistently CELESTINA.

As reported, the tacos we see in the "Russian" printing are not all that clear, but I can say that the headdresses, the style (shape and folds) of clothing, hand placements allow me to think that these tacos may have been used previously in other as-yet-unidentified edition(s) of the TRAGICOMEDIA.
